India Amory’s Indigo Blossom Tablecloth and Napkins
It was a dark and stormy night. Hardly the kind of weather for eating dinner outside. But we have a screened-in porch that was recently power washed from all the green pollen. The dining table on the porch was bare and yet clean. The table looked like it was longing for some color and candles.
However, on such short notice, would I take just a few minutes, after a long workday to pull together a pretty table setting? You bet I can. It was more important to finally have a chance to enjoy our porch after the long, damp spring than to have it ‘perfect’.
From one of my favorite books “The One Thing” I often like to refer to the suggestion that “Perfection gets in the way of what is possible.” I decided it was more important to enjoy the evening, with not so perfectly pressed linens, than to cancel the whole idea and eat inside.
Yet as a designer I’m moved to add some chic elements whenever possible. With clippers in hand I gathered stems from our Viburnum, the French square table cover from the closet and the natural woven placemats.
A little glass of wine added to the table and in minutes we were transported to a summer style dinner on the porch. The tablecloth that I hadn’t used in ages reminded me how much I like French country linens for their color and pattern. The woven placements add another country texture and the Viburnum flowers were the centerpiece with the candles lit.
If you’re in the same boat as I was, you may need some fresh ideas to create a more interesting table setting – for yourself or your soon to be arriving dinner guests.
One of my favorite resources to peruse is India Amory. Well known for the ultimate style along the eastern and Florida coast, their tablecloth selection has a color and pattern for everyone. Also, I’ve found round cloths that fall closer to the floor so it looks more chic.
If you’re looking for a softer color and easy care, check out Fine Linens for wide variety of cloths. The tablecloth below is coated so it’s easy to keep clean while you’re dishing out the seafood and spirits.
I’m going to order the 19 x 59 runner. It comes in a beige shade too.
If you’re looking for some BoHo chic, try the Turkish style cloth below from Williams Sonoma Home. It’s also coated for clean-ability and you can order one with an umbrella hole too.
Just like in your living and bedroom spaces, it’s easy to get ‘the look’ on your outdoor and indoor dining table if you have something wonderful in the way of a pattern to start with. Then add layers with texture, high light accent colors. They’ll think you had a designer pull it together for you.
Bon Appetit!
