When you hear the word Coastal, it may bring to mind a picture of the New Jersey coast, or a Connecticut beach by the Long Island Sound. Or, it may bring to mind the issues of living in a Coastal area. As a designer and lover of the areas on the eastern seaboard, I have witnessed many beautiful homes – homes that were beautiful and built to last – to stand up to the elements.
Elements such as bright sunrises or sunsets, varying winds, salty air, nearness to the water and sand, as well as a lack of shade, dictate the exterior and the interior selections for each house.
If you are planning on or dreaming of a coastal home or retreat, the brightest and the best architects will take these elements in mind when creating your new home’s architectural plans. But, in any case, it’s best to be ‘ahead of the game’ and to keep the 5 Elements in mind when you review your architectural or renovation plans prior to construction.
